Out of everything and anything in Halo 5: Guardians that could or has caused outrage, one has been particularly controversial. It is not the lack of split-screen in the game, which some consumers still aren’t aware of even now for some reason, and it is not the REQ system which contains microtransactions and RNG. It is the false advertising that the game had, and no, we are not referring to the campaign.
Let’s take a step back and look at this issue. The game is called Halo 5: Guardians, with the emphasis on Guardians. This has caused some fans to take to the Internet to express their disappointment over the fact that the game did not even come with the map “Guardian”. (In case you didn’t know, Guardian was a medium-sized asymmetric map from Halo 3, and later Halo Online, comprising of several catwalks and small rooms.)
In order to better understand the reasons behind this, HaloSwallower has interviewed some of the more vocal fans calling for a Guardian remake in Halo 5: Guardians. One /r/halo user has said, “This is bullshit man, I bought this game only because the title implied that it would have a Guardian remake or something, but when I tried to look for the map in the Custom Games menu, it wasn’t there! What the hell, 343? If I don’t get Guardian by December I’m selling this poor excuse of a game. I hate false advertising.”. Another user on Waypoint claimed that the game was “literally unplayable without a Guardian remake”.
Literally unplayable without a Guardian remake.
At the time of writing, 343 Industries has not made any official announcements on adding a Guardian remake to Halo 5: Guardians, but we kind of know that we’ll be getting Forge mode, more REQs and some new map stuff in December. Whether or not 343 decides to throw Guardian in there to appease the angry masses remains to be seen. On the lack of official statement from 343, a Facebook user has said that, “They’d better add in a proper Guardian map with actual textures, not some nonsense created in Forge mode. They also better compensate us true fans by giving us a free month of Xbox Live Gold since I was unable to find any games on Guardian in a game with Guardian in its title.”
“But at least there’s a remake of Midship, and that’s the only thing stopping me from selling my Limited Edition Halo 5 Xbox One,” the same Facebook user said.
